Strumstick
The smallest and most easy to learn Guitar. Also called Ukalinga. You do not need any complicated grip techniques or notes. The easiest way to play is to strike the lower string and pluck the accompanied upper strings (bordun). This plucked instrument is similar to a Turkish Saz or dulcimer. It is easy to play and allows both novice and experienced player to enjoy these kind of instruments. This is a perfect small-sized, light weight instrument for traveling; being on the beach, in the mountains and even when you’re in a traffic jam.
The fingerboard has a diatonic scale which enables you to play easy melodies and to improvise because there are no wrong combinations. The professional will enjoy the sound and possibilities as well with our Strumstick with a chromatic scale. The strumstick can be changed from the basic tune in major (G,d,g), to a minor-tune (G,d,f), which resembles the tunes used in gypsy songs, or to a more exotic tune (Gis,cis,e).

I met a new instrument with the strumstick. I never had guitar classes and never could remember all the different grips. Now I play excited on three strings and it is fun !! Michael Reimann, multi instrumentalist and producer, Engelskirchen | ![]() |

The purchase of the Strumstick has been very productive. This fresh little three-string instrument appears on many of my recording-trace plans. It has a favorite place in the store room of my studio. To allow spontaneous recording it always has a modified pickup microphone on it, which was developed for acoustic guitars. It is tuned fast – Base tone-fifth and octave and the action with my rhythm stick is fun with the groove, (yeah...) Martin Hömberg, composer, performer, creativ-producer, Lohmar | ![]() |

The children are happy that my guitar has got a baby- it's name is Ukulele. Once the children asked if the guitar-baby Ukulele has a little brother and I said:„Yes, it's a brother with a long neck that sometimes sounds like a banjo and sometimes sounds very oriental". Then I showed them Ukalinga, a strumstick. The children were enthusiastic about little Ukalinga and so I am anyway.
